Quick report
Quick run up to the glacier on Tiehacker for some mellow laps. Turned around early due to a later than intended start, only made it a little above 3000’. Overall snowpack felt solid but my main concerns were potential for glides on steeper terrain where snowpack was thin and poorly bonded to ground layer, as well as small wet loose slides on solar aspects. Snow started at 2000’ as a melt/freeze crust from 2-6”, gradually transitioned by 3000’ to 2-3” of new snow over a soft (4F) base from 1-2.5 feet deep. Was able to “burp” isolated columns from hand pits from the ground/vegetation layer relatively easy. No propagation observed, but the separation of the snow from the ground made me wary of potential for glide avalanches. Saw lots of roller balls on southerlies, almost all had fallen from steep rocky faces. No roller balls observed on the day of my tour, likely they were 1-2 days old. Saw debris from a glide avalanche around 3000’ in the distance, occurred on a steep slope >30, Im guessing D1-1.5.
