Quick report
- Collapsing
- isolated
- day 3 of our A1 today we were in search of good observations and good snow, found both. - toured up the old growth and at 8400ft we pulled off for some formal obs + learning. The team quickly verified our Pslab problem with a collapse. Once we were out of skis and started digging we were able to effect the weak layer and felt / heard a noticeable collapse. - we conducted a PST and ECT //// ECTP25 down 100cm on near crust facets /// PST 15/100(end) same layer (both failed below crust) - personally I found today to be a great example of what the forecasters have been talking about. This particular setup can be difficult to manage because we received no direct feedback or signs of instability on our tour today which can lead to false sense of confidence in the snowpack. The only time we did was when we got out of our skis (felt a collapse) and did a series of snowpack tests. So please read the forecast in its entirety, heed the travel advice, we still have a lot of skiing left to do this season. - Jan
