Quick report
Went for a walk in the North Lake region up Sabrina with the intention of feeling the snow and maybe getting a few turns. snowed ~4-6 inches while I was up there and was generally surprised at how cohesive everything was. I expect if I could have seen any of the peaks I would have seen signs of avalanches, but visiblity was less than 500ft. winds were light, generally 0-5kts. All in all a beautiful wintry day. Dug a pit on a 30 degree ENE facing slope at 9200ft. snow depth 95 cm temperature gradient showed signs of rounding 0cm - 32F 95cm - 28F rain crust at 60cm. ECTN17 snow felt well bonded and generally right-side-up. Played some mini-golf in the featured low angle terrain between 9400ft and 10400ft. Aside from some small loose sluff no signs of instability. Was pleasantly surprised by the lack of wind and the stability of the snowpack. Didn't find any wind slabs. Main concern skiing was hitting sharks - but maybe that was ptsd from snapping a ski in half in the area a week ago from a down log (if anyone has a single atomic backlander, let me know!) Dug another pit at 10400ft NNE facing 28 degree slope. Snow depth ~190cm ECTN14 140cm ECTN27 110cm Snow felt cohesive and no propogation results in any tests. Main concern would have been loose slough on steep terrain over terrain traps. Lovely day in the mountain with not a soul to be seen.
