Quick report
Climbed from the propane tanks to Punta Bardini then Red Peak and down the steep NW facing trees north of Red Peak. TH around 10 am. Calm, sunny, warm. Saw some patchy surface facets in the flats around 8100. We triggered a few small rollerballs even on shaded slopes around noon. By 2 PM, flat areas with a slightly solar tilt were warming even up at 10500’. N wind at approx 20 mph above 10500’. No visible snow transport. Loose surface snow predominated up to 10550’ on the sheltered N aspects we climbed, except on solar-tilted areas that held MF surfaces. Even many wind-textured spots near the ridge were soft. Above 10550’, supportable windboard with small sastrugi was universal. Good skiing on the way down, especially from 10550’ down to 9400’. Below 9400’ conditions were a little more variable and the powder was quite thick.
