Quick Observation

We had a great day skiing laps below the Asulkan Hut. Temps were warm, in the 0 to -5C range around the hut and the humidity was high. The winds really picked up in the afternoon up high. There were rocks visible on the moraine mound skiers left of the hut, visibility wasn’t good enough to really see the glacier and what was happening up there, but my guess is that much of that snow was redistributed to Saskatchewan (as one of my ski partners quipped). It snowed lightly most of the day. The skiing around the tree triangle was great, with no real hint of the crust while turning. We did remote trigger two size 1.5 slides on steep lee slopes with a roll that seemed to slide on the crust layer (see pic - crown +/- 40cms). The approach up the valley is much better filled in than 2 weeks ago - the open creek and warm temps made the snow a bit wet and sticky, so heads up for those with wet skins! There is great skiing to be had, but I would keep it very mellow for a while, especially with the upcoming week’s forecast!
