Went out today for a look at the Noseeum Creek basin and its north-facing chutes and fans. Conscious of potential overhead hazard development as today went on so we stuck to an early start. 5-10 cm fresh on the skin track. Most south-facing elements of Noseeum Peak were dry, and for now the sun was well clear of the established cornices at the tops of the eastern chutes. Found a mellow slope to practice our skinning and turns on at the far end of the creek: 10-15 cms fresh snow on top of a very thick (sun?) crust. Quick snow pit confirmed the stability of our choice slope. Unfortunately that crust was extremely noticeable underfoot and was not a preferred ski condition. Still a great day checking out a new-to-us area!
