Quick Observation

Went to 2075m on a NE aspect today. Nearing the top of a ridge we had 10-15cm thick soft slabs overlying 15cm of 4F snow sitting on top of a 25 cm thick 1F+/P- windslab from last weekend. This last one was sitting on a 5cm thick layer of facets from the cold bout and was producing moderate sudden planar results. While skiing down, the 40-50cm of storm snow was easily triggered over the buried windslab with 1-2m propagation. The slabs were breaking down fast and the resulting sloughs were running fast and far. In sheltered locations, 40-50cm ski penetration provided excellent quality skiing with multiple faceshots. The wind picked up around noon.
