Snowpack

Instability Comment

Collapsing and cracking of the snow pack was a constant reminder we have a very poor snow pack structure and a sign to stay away from and out of the way of anything above 24 degrees. Although I did not produce any fractures in my ECT test, given the terrain in the Uintas, the snow pack has a high level of spacial variability. I don't feel the low water content of this last storm will overload the snow on low angle terrain, however; if it does and you're in it, being buried will be the least of your concerns. It's really boney out there so even the smallest ride could really hurt. Take note of the large basal facets ~8mm in the last pic. It will be interesting to see how much more these continue to grow.
