Quick Observation

The storm produced 50 cm of new snow in the Renshaw with a ton of southwest wind. Our weather station only showed 17 cm of new snow, but that’s because so much of it was blown away by the strong wind! Above 1700 m the storm only produced snow, but below that the upper 20 cm of the snowpack is rain soaked with 10 cm of new snow on top. Visibility was quite poor which kept us in the trees where the riding was unreal. We dug a few holes in the snow but we were not finding much of a slab. That being said, that’s in the trees. The alpine is likely a totally different story where wind and snow have come together to form huge cornices and widespread wind slabs. We’ll be looking for more protected tree riding tomorrow!
