Quick Observation
We skied a SE facing slope along the ridge west of Hector South Peak. Snowpack was supportive with about 10 cm of soft powder. West facing alpine slopes were wind scoured with plenty of rocks. In the SE-facing lee side there was nice accumulation of powder over this firm base. There were still a few larger rocks poking through the base and hidden under the powder, so still early season conditions. Only signs of instability were soft, thin wind slab on south facing alpine slopes (only propagated less than a meter when ski cut) and small sluffs or point release off south facing cliffs, likely as the warmed in the sun. When the sluffs hit the main slope, nothing was moving. Travel conditions were good with the firm base, but down in the lower elevation trees there were plenty of willows and branches poking through.
