Mt Cain, along with the rest of the island, seems to have made another firm transition to spring-like conditions... emphasis on the FIRM. We saw lots of evidence of wet loose releases up to size 2 (large), from the rain event earlier this week, but up at the golf clubs we found only a few windblown traces of dry snow, we suspect from early Wednesday. This did nothing to improve ski quality or to introduce potential for wind slab formation. Bootpacking was our travel mode of choice on the ridge in the AM and crampons would not have been out of place. We were lucky enough that greenhousey cloud and sun managed to soften up the surface in the afternoon on solar aspects, but not by much. Easy travel, if a bit treacherous, and no avalanche hazard to speak of. Great snow for traveling fast and far ..as long as your edges are sharp!
