A beautiful day to be out in the hills. A pronounced temperature inversion sat around 1250 m, with alpine temperatures near −6 °C under sunny skies and calm winds. No signs of recent avalanche activity were observed, consistent with the natural avalanche cycle that occurred Tuesday night last week.
Unfortunately, riding quality is poor. Below 1300 m, a breakable melt–freeze crust is widespread and unpredictable, and grabbing skis. Above this elevation, variable wind board dominates. Small, isolated pockets of softer snow can still be found in sheltered terrain if you’re willing to hunt for it.
