Quick Observation

The peaks in the area look snowy and fun from a distance, but it is just a tease! There is still a major lack of coverage/snow. There is 15-20cm of snow from the recent storm in the area. In sheltered places like Barnes, the new snow is pretty fluffy, but at Raingauge today’s wind was stiffening the surface snow and making drifts. Because of the lack of snow, there is generally a lack of avalanche problems as well. Some isolated windslabs were our only real concern. We are gathering baseline information about the crusts and weak faceted crystals at the bottom of the snowpack. Good chance they will be an issue later on when it finally snows!
