We skinned up Old Mammoth Road for an hour or so in the evening. The new snow that fell during the last storm felt like it came in warm and harder, then softened up in the middle before dropping a final warmer inch or so on top. The base that it fell on was quite old and firm, especially in places exposed to the sun. We observed some isolated cracking in the snowpack while breaking trail, but didn't see signs of failure propagation, though we were mostly traveling in pretty flat terrain. We did observe an avalanche in the Sherwins, in the chute just north of Mineshaft. It looked like it naturally triggered during the storm and was about D2 in size, running 100 or so vertical feet into the chute below. The wind was still whipping and appeared to have been blowing mostly from the south during the storm.
