Quick report
No instabilities were observed on the approach to the shovel while climbing on a mostly west aspect. While bootpacking up the face of the shovel on a northern aspect, a hand shear pit revealed preserved buried surface hoar that broke with easy to moderate force.
Snow below 3000 ft was consolidated and had frozen overnight. Upper elevation were wind blown with a few cms of fresh snow on top. Other than finding a persistant grain (BSH) down 60 cms, good stability was observered.Weather

Buried Surface Hoar was found at 5200 ft on the north aspect of the Shovel 60 cms down. Grains were sitting on the wind damaged snow from hurricane force winds in early march which would provide an excellent bed surface.
