Cleave Glacier

Climbed and skied a ramp in the Califlowers on the north side of the Cleave Glacier. The 3/16 new/old interface was identified 4-6" down. The BSH at this interface was very deformed/rounded and unreactive in test pits. Winds had rearranged the snow surface the days prior, but no fresh winds slabs were observed. A large cornice fall was observed across the valley on the north face of The Thing as well as small wet loose activity coming off rocky cliff bands in the sun. Cornice fall and wet loose activity will conintue to be a factor as temperatures increase and the mountains begin the warm up. Keep in mind that many of the north facing ramps holding the best snow right now have rocky cliff bands above/adjacent to them that are south facing and can shed onto the north facing ramps.  Timing is everything out there, small chunks of ice, snow, and rock can be an inication that these rocky faces are warming up.
