Quick report

When you think conditions can't get any worse... think again. Decided to scout the back side of 4068 and the Frostbite area today. Toured up through the backcountry gate at Skeetawk—conditions were already super firm from that classic melt-freeze crust. My ski partner finally talked me out of my optimism once we hit the upper elevations: totally wind-stripped and scoured. Lower down? Just awful crust skiing. The crust was rock-hard—turns were basically impossible. I ended up kick-turning the whole way down the snowmachine up-track because stepping off it meant even worse punishment. Unfortunately, no groomers available from Skeetawk's cat-skiing operation either. So if epic crust skiing and tiny sled tracks are your vibe... pick another zone.
