Twin Lakes

Toured up crater crest’s N face from twin lakes. Significant inversion of temps present from lake level to 9700’. Found a mix of surfaces on the ascent; sun crust, facet pow, wind slab, and some ice. Generally all protected N aspects either had facets or light crust with facets on top. At around 9700’ we found a new 4-8cm wind slab had formed and was very reactive. Some light wind was transporting light amounts of snow above 9700’. We dug a pit on a NE aspect at 9700’ to see if the ice layers around 120cm were reactive or healing in very sheltered terrain. Snow pack was right side up with a P hard windslab on top and 1F down. Wind slab failed on isolation, CTX below the first 4cm. Column failed with shovel shear test medium effort on ice layer 120cm down. Overall stable conditions, however the wind slab above us may have been small but did react easily. Temps were generally around or above freezing.
