Toured on Chicken Wing to check out coverage and see how the snow layered in after recent storms. Approach had very thin coverage - just a few cm but enough to skin. Around 2,750m coverage depth improved to 25-40cm, but experienced collapsing through old layers. Dug a small pit at 2850m, N aspect on moderate slope: base layer appeared to be heavily faceted with a slightly more firm layer above it, transitioning into a rain crust below the most recent snowfall. All layers appeared to be fragile (4F/F). Depth to ground was 25cm. Saw some cracking where old layer was collapsing but no propagation. Coverage was really too thin to ski. Encountered a number of rocks and collapsing rain layer while attempting descent. Decided to hike out most of it.
