Quick report
- Red Flags
- Recent Avalanches, Heavy Snowfall, Poor Snowpack Structure
Weather varied. Sun broke through at times and flurries came and went. Ended the 3 hour tour with 1" of snow on the brim of my hat!
Snowpack
- Instability Comment
-
Touring up to dog lake didn't see any natural signs of instability. New snow (35-40 cm) rested on what felt like a pretty major ice crust from this weekends thaw. Ended up digging a pit on an ENE facing aspect around 8000 ft. Snow Depth was around 195 cm with soft, dry snow above the ice crust and stable snow beneath. Dug down ~110 cm and couldn't find the weak layer.
