- <p>6" from the top of the 8" of new snow we found consistent failure from tests at the study plot. Two research tilt board tests highlight an instability. We followed with more traditional tests and found a CT4, and a PST10/100Arr. The slab above this instability was cohesionless during testing. It was unclear if this layer was a result of the break in the storm overnight and surface hoar formation or just a new snow instability. I anticipate this instability to be short-lived as the new snow settles. </p> <p>With moderate winds and new snow, transport is likely and may result in pockets of wind-drifted snow. As the storm subsides I anticipate this problem to increase in stability.</p>
Visited the snow study plot to perform new snow instability tests. The new snow at the study plot was approximately 15-20 cm. The density of the new snow was light. Snow stability tests are explained below on the new snow layers.
