Poor Snowpack Structure

It was snowing light to moderate for most of the morning, and there was a little less than a foot of light, fluffy powder. The run was tracked out in places, but the skiing was surprisingly good on the untouched snow. Photo is of the crystals scraped off the bottom of one of my test columns.

Instability Comment

My compression tests failed at the ground either on isolation or after just a few taps. I also noticed a weak interface at 51cm and another one at 27cm just above the crust, but neither of those failed before the layer on the ground. Good reminder that the snow structure is still pretty bad in the lower coverage areas. I couldn't get a good ECT due to a large sagebrush in my snowpit.
