Snowpack

Instability Comment

We toured up Murdock Peak and dug a pit on the north side of Renny's Ridge at ~9300'. We found a 25 cm layer of basal facets making up the base of an otherwise homogenous 90 cm snowpack. An ECT on a 28* slope broke at the facet interface but didn't propagate. We took a conservative line down. There was also widespread surface hoar growing in all exposed areas - something to be aware of for the next storm. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at the coverage, even down to the mid 6000s. It was a much better day than expected.
