Quick report
Skied South Gully and the East snowfields today, and found mostly a few inches of soft snow on top of a firm crust. South Gully held mostly unconsolidated, F hard snow on top of the old surface, with very little wind affect. This snow provided very little resistance as I was booting up it, and I was through to the crust the whole time. It did sluff off and slide on the firm underlying surface as small loose dry activity while descending, but it did not run very far or entrain much additional snow. I noticed one patch of 4F hard, wind deposited snow against one of the sidewalls, but it was very small in nature. I skied through it on the descent and it did break off in very small panels that didn’t run downhill. Overall scratchy, but decent skiing. The East snowfields were similar, but very smooth underneath, with no sastrugi or wind texture at all. There was some smooth old wind board that was supportable to skis, with no cracking or collapsing. Ski crampons were nice on the ascent, and the descent was quite enjoyable and consistent. Weather was quite nice today with mild temperatures, and periods of sunshine. A cloud intermittently covered the summit, but visibility was good all day. There may have been a few stray snowflakes here and there, but nothing real before I descended around 11:45. Wind was almost non-existent and I saw no snow being transported.
