Quick report
3:45am departure from Bunny Flat for a summit push. The refreeze was good at all elevations but still not fully consolidated, ie flotation is needed on most of the route. The Helen Lake to Red Banks bootpack is well-defined. Falling ice was a minor issue in the early morning on this busy climbing day - eyes up! I was hit by a baseball-size chunk, enough of a hit to leave a small bruise. Crampon purchase was good. We reached Short Hill before the sun hit us. Very few icy spots. Misery hill is mostly snow-covered. The summit pinnacle features a true Shasta portal!
