Quick report
We worked our way into the south snow fields to dig class test pits and look at a recent avalanche event. At the base of the snow fields and out of the avalanche runout we found about 100cm of 1F snow on top of a 5mm crust. Under the crust there was some weak grains we pulled a ECT and PST. With results of ECTX and a 35/100 end. We continued up to the lookers left corner. About 100 to 150 yard to the lookers left of the crown line. We found the same Ice crust under about 100cm of 1f+/P- snow. And found another crust 130cm down which also had weak grains around it. We did a PST on the deeper layer with a result of 45/130 end. My estimated of the crown line depth would be around 1.5m. Although it is easy to find weakness in the snow pack. The extreme wind event form earlier this week has protected us somewhat from deeper instabilities. Having said that, finding deeper weakness always make me ask my self the question. What if?
