Our group observed conditions that seemed in line with the avalanche forecast. As clouds lifted and lowered, we observed two small crown lines in Duchess. While practicing snowpit observations, compression tests required hard taps to fracture, if they fractured at all. An extended column test did not show full propagation. The surface snow was a 2cm ice crust. The somewhat thin snowpack leaves a lot of rocks and trees exposed. The bottom half mile of the Sherburne was fun corn snow, but the upper Sherburne trail required hearing protection.
