Quick report
Dug a pit below Odell’s on the side of the ravine that looked like it had collected most of the windblown snow on Thursday PM. 4,400’ el., 30 degrees slope, North facing. Top 30 cm had more dense snow varying between 3 finger and pen density. Fractured in blocks as we were digging. Below was much lighter, drier & powdery snow No results from a compression test. When the block was physically pried from the back it slid cleanly on the softer layer. The separated block stayed cohesive. General conclusion: it would take a lot of energy, or the wrong trigger point, to start a slide- but if it did start it would be large and consequential, especially with the still very boney conditions in the bowl.
