Quick report

New snow of 20cm (6-8") over the last couple days. Winds have been moderate during this period without a ton of slab developement on leeward ridgelines. New snow is bonding well to previous interface of crust or dense, settled snow on northerly, shaded aspects. 

No signs of instability of cracking, collapsing, or recent avalanches (last 48-72 hours). 

Average snowpack height is 60-80cm (24-32") with a large variation in depth due to wind transport. Maximum snowpack depth on a wind loaded slope was 200-300cm (80-120"). 

Snowpack

Overall, we found poor snowpack structure that has adjusted to the current load of snow during this drought period. Weak facets are buried around 30cm (12") directly beneath crusts formed during the drought period. We did not get any propagation or unstable results in our snow pits. 

My concern would be traveling in heavily wind affected areas off leeward ridgelines that have developed a harder overlying slab. Otherwise the main concern will be when this snowpack receives a significant load of new snow (and/or wind). This could reactive the weak layers buried in the middle and base of the snowpack. The facets in the middle and base of the snowpack are weak and well developed (2-3mm facets with 3mm depth hoar on northery slopes). 

9200' E aspect

 HS: 64cm ECTN down 20cm on 3mm facets below a thin rain crust. 

9300' NW aspect

HS: 77cm ECTN down 30cm on 1.5mm facets below a thin rain crust.
