Quick report
Observations from the Snake River Canyon. Overall, there was minimal wet avalanche activity visible from the road as of this morning (3/17). Noticed some small wet loose avalanches on rocky south facing slopes at the low elevations. Some of these slides appeared to be several days old. Higher up, I noticed several recent looking wet loose avalanches on the south and southeast facing slopes of Ferry Peak (see photos). The largest of these may have been D2 in size. Not much to speak of on the shaded side of the canyon except for some roller ball activity. Based on the observations from this morning, it seems that this part of the Snake didn’t reach the warming required for a large wet cycle yesterday afternoon. This could change today though as temperatures in the canyon were 32 degrees at 10 am.
