Site investigation of the avalanche that caught and injured a snowboarder yesterday in 3rd Bowl. Most of the avalanche broke about a foot deep on the 2/2 surface hoar layer, and a portion of the avalanche stepped down to old weak layers near the ground, up to 3 feet thick. We remotely triggered a smaller avalanche in 2nd Bowl enroute to the site that also broke on the 2/2 surface hoar layer. Without success, I attempted to trigger the very steep section of 2nd bowl by stomping and sending sluffs down the face with no results. Evan followed behind me on my skin track and got a collapse that triggered a relatively small slab on the steepest part of the slope.
Got a couple of collapses and triggered a slab from above 2nd Bowl. Got a couple of collapses/shooting cracks and a very small pocket while traversing across the top of steep terrain below Snodgrass Road.Weather
