Quick report

We broke trail from the Tincan parking lot around 10am. Seeing an opportunity for good learning, if not necessarily skiing, we dug a pit and performed an ECT on the southerly aspect of Tincan common. Three layers were observed: 5cm new snow over weak layer at 10cm, failed at 6 strikes, non propagating 15cm thick crust over facets at 50cm, failed at 21 strikes, propagated Deeper crust over facets which was non reactive at the bottom of the column Some roller balls were observed on Tincan Proper, however we weren't able to determine if that was from the current snowfall or residual. We chose to avoid avalanche terrain on similar aspects and skipped Tincan Proper due to observation of roller balls, questionable weak layer, and limited, fleeting visibility. Flat light was a factor on all aspects. Temps came up a lot during the day with snow thickening significantly towards the middle of Tincan Common. Around 1pm we transitioned at 3150' in 3-4" of fresh on the ridge. It was fun skiing, but things got heavy as the day went on especially below 2500'.
