I stayed on west and NW aspects mostly in the trees. Didn't get out on any large faces. East faces were a no-go. Low cloud cover, so no visibility of surrounding slopes. Little wind, light snow. Snow was settling nicely with a light 5" of new on top. No pits, just hand shears along the way showing that the upper crust layers (~6", & 20" deep) seemed to be breaking down fast as the pack is so full of facets and buried surface hoar that moisture is moving up through the not so dense pack rapidly. No noise out of the pack until about 6500' when the whumphing started. While the ridgeline surface was smooth, the wind had stiffened it. Very noisy up to 6800' on the ridge, with isolated cracking, no propagation like Saturday. Low angle trees skied fantastic. Normal sluffing off of turns. Small convexities were not popping like Saturday. I would suggest to not over complicate what we have by trying to ski that rad line you've been eyeing. Enjoy the beautiful waist deep snow we have currently, while you plan those future lines.
