Quick report
Eric, Christian and I skinned up the road to assess conditions during the current bout of active weather, which began yesterday around 5:00 pm. Surface and subsurface snow was best classified as wet, saturated by recent rainfall. At our observation site around 7300 feet, several centimeters of soaked snow that fell before freezing levels rose, sat on top of a saturated about 8 cm melt freeze crust above 25 cm of wet snow. The crust and sublayer had fallen during the storm on December 19th. The ground and snow near the base were also wet and rain runnels were evident on some sloping terrain. Snow depths varied from around a foot near the observation site to about half a foot near Bunny Flat.
Surface snow was saturated with water. Small rain runnels were apparent on sloping terrain.Weather

Today we were greeted with a light, yet thoroughly wetting rain... Temperatures hovered at least several degrees above freezing with the Old Ski Bowl weather station reading around 35 to 36 F. Snow depth measurements were also on a steady decline, implying the rain line was somewhere above 7,600 feet. Winds were calm to light out of the WSW.
