Shallow snowpack and cold temps have created a strong temperature gradient that has promoted faceting within the snowpack. Winter recreation in the Northern Bitterroots and Silver Valley remains challenging as access to deeper snow at our uppermost elevations is hampered by lack of coverage and shallow snowpack below and near tree line.
