Quick report
Today we focused on training, terrain orientation, gear checks, and a road survey. It was a soggy day on Lolo Pass with rain falling everywhere we could see. Visibility was limited, but it appeared that rain was falling up to at least 7000 ft near Lolo Peak. The snowpack at Lolo Pass was wet and fully saturated to the ground. We observed rain runnels and significant snowpack melting. The snowpack was completely melted away below around 4400 ft.
There were several wet loose avalanches/mudslides on steep highway road cuts near the pass. At least one required the highway crew to clear debris from the road.
