On Saturday mid day, our group remotely triggered a large cornice failure from the switchback on the Point 6 road. Fracture propagated at least 2-300 feet wide and cornice broke in excess of six feet deep at peak of the crown. West winds were sustained at about 40mph on ridge tops most of the day with heavy snowfall. Notably, the enormous force of the collapse did not cause an avalanche below, although debris is very apparent. We examined the bed surface (which appeared to be facets above the main AR crust from mid-December) and impressive debris pile and then skied the slope. Pits dug on east aspect earlier in the day revealed 35 cm of low density storm snow from over night Friday with ECTP 14 results on shallow storm snow interface. By Sunday's tour in the same area, new snow had consolidated with inverted and warming temperatures and we could not get the same storm slab to propagate.
