The goal today was to look at mid elevation terrain between 5500' and 7000'. What was most suprising was how wet the snow is near the ground at 6500'. Snow near the ground is still saturated with water, but unreactive in snowpit tests. With continued cold weather, this layer will heal and freeze, but this is taking longer than anticipated.
The previously observed crust/facet combination was not present, however, we are developing another crust at the new snow interface where cold new snow sits on warm damp snow. I expect to see faceting develop around this new crust in the coming days.
Overall, the primary concern today was sloughing in steeper terrain at mid elevation within the new snow, running on the developing crust. At upper elevation, winds were obvious with large amounts of snow transport visible from below.
