Quick report
The snowpack is hanging on to a lot of moisture from hot sunny days earlier in the week. There is wet snow to the ground on south and west aspects at upper elevations. Only the very top portion of the snowpack is marginally refreezing at night and becoming a supportable crust. The overall structure of the snowpack below has broken down to be 4F hardness or less and is not very well bonded.
I observed three wet loose avalanches that ran earlier in the week.Weather

The day started out partly cloudy then quickly advanced to overcast by late morning. The wind was calm and from the east and picked up slightly around 12:30pm. Also at this time, very light snow began to fall. Temperatures hovered around freezing all day.
Snowpack
In the morning, at upper elevations, the surface of the snow was refrozen and hard. By the afternoon, the surface snow had softened but was still supportable.
We dug a pit on a south aspect at 7800'. The depth of this pit was 44" (112cm). The entirety of the snowpack was wet to the ground. The top 6" (16cm) of the snowpack was pencil (P) and (1F) hard. I found what appeared to be a 1F hard layer of near crust facets in between melt freeze crusts and an ice layer. Below this was four finger (4F) and fist (F) hard snow consisting of rounded grainsm melt freeze crusts, and basal facets at the ground. I perfromed an extended column test and got hard non-propagating results within a layer of rounded grains (ECTN23). I performed a propagation saw test and got no results (PST 100/100 X).
We dug another quick pit on a west aspect at 7600'. The depth of this pit was 51" (130cm). The entirety of the snowpack was wet to the ground in this pit as well. The overall structure and hand hardness was very similar to the pit we dug on a south aspect.
