Quick report
Two ECT pits near the reservation divide. Pit 1: 230 cm total depth, SE aspect 7600 ft several hundred feet below ridgeline in sheltered area. Ectn2 5 cm Ectn 14 24 cm, this then propagated 1/2 way across at 20 taps Ectn 24 35 cm The 24 cm deep layer broke clean when pried off. Appeared to be fairly well preserved surface hoar or near surface facets. The 24 cm slab of recent snow was thick and cohesive and we abandoned plans to ski bigger south facing terrain given this result. Pit 2: 125 cm total depth, NE aspect 7900'. This was a shallow snowpack area near ridgetop with faceting in the bottom 80 cm of the snowpack. Ect 12 12 cm Ectn 22 20 cm Ect 26 35 cm Ectx 80 top of facets, the column failed clean on this layer when pried. Everything south of due east had a sun crust and chunder by days end. North through east skis well.
Avalanche
Cornice fall from ridgeline on east aspect had entrained some snow but not caused any slab avalanche.
