Quick report
Yesterday, we toured around Lolo Pass to investigate early season conditions. We mostly traveled around 6000 feet on solar aspects (S, SE, E). The cover was thin at these locations, and we did not ski off the road due to the danger of early-season hazards like buried logs and rocks. We dug multiple snow pits and found a very poor snowpack structure. The entire snowpack is faceting and becoming “rotten” and “sugary.” Our observations matched those reported by the West Central Montana Avalanche Center.
