Quick report
-0930 snow surface was beginning to soften at the bottom of Hillmans -1100 top of Hillmans surface snow fully softened and was moist with 2.5-4 inch boot penetration. With low winds and clear skies solar warming was in full effect and melting was evident. Moving over to Oakes, which was experiencing the same effect and skiied well. Booting back up Main gully in Oakes was a easy going with great boot penetration. Decided to do a temperature gradient here to see if the past two days of warming had made the snowpack stable and isothermic. After digging down to ground in this untouched, away from runouts SW aspect in Oakes I found that the temperatures throughout the snowpack were indeed the same. Walking the ridge back over to hillmans and the winds had slightly increased from earlier in the day. 1600 Back at Hillmans and the sun was completely off of the slope except for the very top section. The snow wasn’t exactly firm yet but it was quickly on its way there. The skied off sections were more firm then on the sides where wet snow had been pushed there from skiers.
