Quick report

Very high winds were observed throughout the day on Slippery Brook Trail, and even snow below treeline was appearing to become wind effected. On the knob snowfields (E facing), the upper start zone was being actively scoured down to melt freeze crust by NW wind. Lower in the trees around 2750 feet, more sheltered snow was beginning to become wind affected, becoming stiffer and grabby, but no shooting cracks were observed. The snow appeared to be scouring more than loading. Another interesting data point is that below 1700 feet, snow became wet and heavy with sun and warmer temps. While this is lower elevation than most terrain we ski in the whites, especially in the forecast zone, those touring at these elevations may encounter a breakable crust.
