Quick report
Sheltered but open glade, East Aspect, 3,800’ we observed little to no cohesion in HST where mid-storm crusts begin to deteriorate. Instability tests produced non propagating results within the 1/10 complex which is 65cm below the surface: PST 30/100 (SF) down 65cm within 1/10 complex. ECTX, (*continued very hard taps produced failure but no propagation) also down 65cm within 1/10. Several ECTN within HST. A few hundred feet lower in elevation, at 3,600’, we observed more cohesive structure in the HST due to more pronounced mid-storm crusts. Repeatable ECTP21 down 50cm within 1/10 complex. Of note here, on one test the failure initiated just above the 1/10 crust and propagated down through the crust and across the column (failure was below crust on the far side of the column). At this elevation, HST rests directly on top of variable, 5cm thick 1/10 crust complex with ~10-15cm layer of small (0.5mm) FC below.
Snowpack
Mid-storm crusts much less pronounced (but still detectable) beginning at 3,800’. 60-65cm of HST, mostly F and becoming 4F lower down. On East aspect, 3,800’, HST sits on top of Jan 10 interface/layer/complex/thingy which presents as 5cm of 4F small grained facets on top of a 5cm brittle and variable crust complex. Below the Jan 10 layer is strong/settled 1F rg.
