Quick report

Cracking
widespread

On north facing aspects, we saw much evidence of wind loading today. The new storm snow (~8”) was soft and light and unconsolidated on the South-facing Skyline road but at the ridge and in North Bowl there was much wind effect. We saw many shooting cracks through both the top 2-3” of wind swept snow and also occasionally all the way through the storm snow to the previous crust. There were many hand-sized slabs observed today, nearly every convexity and every ski turn created them, but nothing large propagated or slid - only cracking. At about 4900’ we found a soft 1/2” rain crust on the snow surface in the trees on the way to Tye Peak.
