Chair Peak circumnav in a clockwise direction allowed us to sample a range of aspects and elevations. We sought to observe the distribution and sensitivity of lingering wind slab over the 1/10 crust. We also sought to observe whether any soft snow had been preserved after the warm-up and refreeze earlier in the week. Overall we found mostly firm surfaces with some pockets of soft snow on northerly aspects between 5400’ and 4000’. Ski pen throughout the day ranged from 0-7cm. On the E side of the compass we found isolated pockets of wind slab from 5-15cm thick. In multiple hand pits this appeared to be 1F hard slab producing easy planar fractures over decomposing fragments above the 1/10 crust. We did not observe faceting at this interface but this remains a question mark. On multiple aspects we also observed small surface hoar development on sheltered open slopes.
