Concern will be if the sun continued to bake and this layer continues to grow, as a sun-affected slab sits on top of a very weak layer on S facing aspects.

Avalanche

Snoqualmie mountain existed in an anomalous sunny vortex today. As others have observed, travel and snow conditions above ~5000’ were excellent with about 2’ of light&fresh sitting on top of a very locked in base. However, Southerly aspects that baked in the sun (specifically on Snoqualmie) were increasingly sun-affected by the surprisingly-strong March sun, creating slabs up to 4-6”. We carefully triggered a number of D1ish slides, as this growing layer began to get stronger. At around 1pm we skedaddled down to treeline.
