Headed up common wealth basin to Kendall trees. Lower Kendall trees had 6-8 inches of new cold dry snow. No signs of instability . After crossing the slide path and heading up to the ridge there was a noticeable change as the snow started to develop a crust and temps felt warmer. On top of the ridge at 4800 ft there was a substantial ski supportable crust, wind picked up and some big tree bombs fell around us. On the way up to the ridge we could hear wumpfing in the snow, but no other signs of unstable snow. There looked to be some small slides, maybe loose wet, up on Kendall above the slide path. Found an open creek on the south side of the slide path.
