Quick report
Went for an overnight Enchantments Traverse. As is expected, approach/exit were pretty bleak, with continuous snow 5500ft and above. Snowpack down low was a classic cascades spring diurnal. Above 6000ft, we found a few cms of wet snow likely from 4/25. Conditions warmed just enough for a few small point releases in the new snow, but cloudy conditions kept wet avalanches largely in check. Noticed plenty of glide cracks. Overnight winds ramped and a few cms of snow fell. Winds @ ridgelines were out of the SW and appeared to be strong all morning. In the core conditions were gusty with lulls and swirling wind directions. Overnight snow was heavily transported, with isolated small wind slabs in lee terrain and near rock features. A strong freeze made for a supportable crust under the new. More protected terrain had a breakable crust in the snow from 4/25. On the exit, noticed a crown line on a hanging snowfield near the colchuck glacier. Unable to spot any debris, so likely an old Wet Slab, but somewhat of a head scratcher!
