Quick report
New snow!! Cold snow returned, which was a welcomed sight. Creeks are still open and coverage is still poor, with now a thin veneer of low density snow to obscure hidden features. Travel was easy into and out of Source Lake. The new snow, at least as of this morning, was low density enough that you would bump the bottom. Source Lake fan is indeed a large chunky mess, with 4-5 inches of low density snow covering the 'cookies'. Didn't see any other notable crown lines or debris piles aside from that one.
Weather
Overcast all morning, with a thickening cloud deck around 930A when we turned around. It did appear to pop blue for a bit as we drove away. Calm winds, no drastic temperature change experienced.
Snowpack
Lots of graupel... At the parking lot noted a new snow depth of 8-10 inches, depending on how open the area was, on top of the stout 3/8 melt-freeze crust. At higher elevations, especially near Upper Chair Peak basin, noted a depth of closer to 15" on top of the crust. Performed numerous hand shears / pits and all the new snow we observed was loose, graupel-y, and not very cohesive. Did not get cracking or fracture in any slab character during our outing. Plenty of sluff and bumping the crust.
